Successfully completing 20 years in the music scene, The National is by far the most important indie rock band, as one can distinguish by their astonishing album releases and their terrific live performances. From their first self-titled album in 2001, up until their last “I Am Easy To Find”, they have managed to accompany their lyrics with music in the most inspiring way, creating the soundtrack for a whole generation.
By uniquely performing their rebellious, artistic, unusual, but at the same time addictive songs, Matt’s charismatic voice became the group’s trademark. Then came the guitars by the Dessner brothers and the strong rhythm section by the Devendorf brothers, a combination that delivered to the audience four of the most respected albums in the last 20 years. “Alligator”, “Boxer”, “High Violet” & “Trouble Will Find Me”, made it really difficult for the fans to decide which one of the band’s releases is their best.
Slow-burning and deafening, melancholic and ecstatic, the band made up a number of great songs. “Mistaken for Strangers”, “I Need My Girl”, “Slow Show”, “Lemonworld”, “Conversation 16”, “Runaway”, “Afraid of Everyone”, “Sea of Love” and the list goes on. After releasing their documentary “Mistaken for Strangers”, which depicts their creative activities through the bluntly emotional and hilarious point of view of Matt Berninger’s brother, the cinematic community could not stop repeating their name.
Their popularity rose dramatically, their sold-out shows multiplied and “Sleep Well Beast” came as a completing action to their efforts, to take them off. After appearing as headliners at the most important festivals, The National is now the “best thing” in the music industry.
One of the most talked-about bands of the last years will visit Greece for the very first time on Sunday, June 13th! IDLES are labeled by the music audience and music lovers as Punk’s Messiahs, who came to rescue a genre that seemed tied to the past.
Placing as a front man the eccentric genius Joe Tailbot, the band has released two of the most important albums of the last five years, laughing at the face of every cliché sound that we have been listening to for a long, long time. “Brutalism”, released in 2017, took down everything near it and crawled into every updated “best albums of the year” list.
In this manner, the neo-punk storm called IDLES got established as a band that is never afraid to post whatever they want, spitting brilliant lyrics on the faces of those who arrogate the spirit of rock n’ roll, by reproducing boring clichés. The year that has passed after “Joy as an Act of Resistance” was released, has confirmed that the myth around their name, will keep going on and on.
Creating their musical path outside of any music norm, they become the voice of solidarity for those who get attacked, setting up a twisted show that swallows you with no resistance.
From the first bass sounds on “Fever” you can tell that the Belgian indie pop pioneers, Balthazar, have changed. "After months of writing towards every direction, without producing anything worthy", this song stood enough to trigger the creation of their 4th album, along with its tile, as the band’s frontman, Maarten Devoldere, explained.
Balthazar's musical journey was not an easy one, as Devoldere and Jinte Deprez tried to artistically co-exist since their school years. Their story begins in 2004 and balances between their indie rock influences and their love for cult pop and Serge Gainsbourg.
"Applause" shook the entire genre, embracing their musical worries and their endless creativity. "Rats" and "Thin Walls" which followed, became the soundtrack for those listeners who cherish the groove and want their indie rock to be glancing around funk and pop elements.
And that is how "Fever" came into our lives with Maarten Devoldere, Jinte Deprez, Simon Casier, Michiel Balcaen and Tijs Delbeke, who put their solo projects aside and gave us some of their fever. Taking the break they needed, they returned intensively with an album full of radio hits, like "Wrong Vibration", that broke all the airplay records!
